Does the count include the start and end dates?
That is your choice, and it is the single biggest source of disagreement in working-day counts. Legal and contractual deadlines usually exclude the day the trigger event happens and start counting from the next business day, while project plans often count the first day as day one. The calculator exposes both options plainly so you can match whichever convention your document requires, and the difference can be two full days.
Why do two people counting the same period get different answers?
Three quiet decisions sit under every count: whether the first day is included, whether the last day is included, and whether today counts as day zero or day one. A phrase like within five business days of receipt is ambiguous on all three. When the count matters, agree the convention in writing first, then compute the calendar date and state it explicitly.
Are public holidays taken into account?
Weekends are excluded automatically; public holidays are not, because they differ by country, by state and even by city, and silently guessing them would produce confidently wrong answers. Australia alone has different holiday sets across its states. Count the working days here, then subtract any public holidays that fall inside your span for the specific jurisdiction that governs your deadline.
Is the date information I enter kept or transmitted?

What happens when a deadline lands on a weekend?
The widespread convention rolls it forward to the next business day, and many statutes codify exactly that. But contracts can and do specify the opposite, pulling the obligation back to the preceding Friday. Compute the raw date first, then read the document's own definition clause, because the convention it names beats the common one every time it differs.
How many business days are in a month?
Between 20 and 23, depending on how the weeks fall, with the long-run average close to 21.7. A 31-day month starting on a Monday packs in 23 working days, while February in some years manages only 20. This spread is why monthly targets divided by a fixed 22 drift.
Does Saturday count as a business day?
Under the standard Monday-to-Friday convention used across most Western countries, no. But some industries treat Saturday as a working or trading day, several Middle Eastern countries historically ran Sunday to Thursday, and courier terms sometimes define their own.
